The new home of Pratt’s graduate MFA programs in fine arts and photography is located in the Dock 72 building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The space has a distinctively long and narrow floorplan situated between the East River and the built up portions of the Navy Yard, necessitating the creation of a wayfinding system to help orient oneself within the space and locate individual studios, classrooms, shops and offices.

I created a directory map for Dock 72 that simplified the overall floorplan and identified individual spaces by the use of bold colors. To assist with orientation, the map is always rotated so that “up” matches the perception of the viewer, with the East River and Navy Yard ends always clearly marked. The directory is placed at elevator lobbies and produced as a folded pamphlet to be given out at public events.

Accompanying the directory are temporary wayfinding signs that can be placed on moveable easels throughout the space, as well as large entryway graphics at elevator lobbies.
